As the shine shines on my face with more intent, the snow melts away and the flowers begin to bloom, we welcome the arrival of spring from both a Métis and a mindfulness perspective. Spring is a time of renewal, growth, and rebirth, and it offers us an opportunity to connect with ourselves and the natural world around us.

From a Métis perspective, spring is a time of celebration and connection to the land. Traditionally, it marks the start of the fishing season and the opportunity to gather medicinal plants and berries. In our contemporary communities, these practices themselves are being renewed and revived to reflect our changing needs. We also come together as a community for powwows and to reflect on our relationship with the earth and our responsibilities as its stewards. As Métis people, many of us have a deep respect for the land and all living things, and we understand the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between human activities and the natural world.

From a mindfulness perspective, spring is a time to awaken and reconnect with ourselves. It is a time to shed the layers of winter and embrace the new beginnings that come with the season. We can use this time to reflect on our intentions and set new goals for ourselves. Spring invites us to slow down and be present in the moment, taking in the beauty of the natural world around us.

Both Métis and mindfulness perspectives encourage us to be present and mindful of the world around us. It invites us to be in tune with our environment, our physical bodies, and our emotional and spiritual selves. As we welcome spring, we can take time to practice mindfulness by meditating outdoors, taking nature walks, or simply being present and aware of the world around us.

Spring reminds us of the cyclical nature of life and the importance of balance and harmony. It encourages us to embrace change and growth, to let go of what no longer serves us, and to welcome new beginnings with open arms. By embracing the teachings of both Métis culture and mindfulness practices, we can deepen our connection to the natural world and to ourselves, and cultivate a deeper sense of peace and harmony within ourselves and our communities.

As the sun shines on my face, I am reminded spring is a time of renewal and growth that offers us an opportunity to connect with ourselves and the natural world around us. By embracing the teachings of our ancestors and mindfulness practices, we can deepen our connection to the earth and ourselves, and cultivate a deeper sense of peace and harmony within ourselves and our communities. Join me to welcome the arrival of spring with open arms and embrace the new beginnings that come with this beautiful season.
